Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)

Gynecomastia is a non-cancerous enlargement of breast tissue in men typically occurring around the time of puberty.  It occasionally resolves without treatment but often, gynecomastia can persist despite weight loss, diet changes and exercise. After ruling out serious endocrinologic causes, a male breast reduction can help reduce this excess glandular and fatty tissue caused by gynecomastia.

Surgery involves a combination of liposuction and a small incision to remove the breast tissue. It is performed as an outpatient procedure in a surgical facility. Most patients that undergo male breast reduction surgery can expect to return to work in two to three weeks and resume normal physical activities within six weeks.
